Résumé
Nous présentons les problèmes liés au codage des hiéroglyphes égyptiens. Après avoir brièvement expliqué le système d’écriture hiéroglyphique, nous faisons l’historique des codages utilisés, dont la plupart proviennent des besoins de l’imprimerie. Nous insistons ensuite sur les problèmes théoriques liés à l’opération de codage elle-même, et à ses finalités, pour conclure qu’il est aujourd’hui prématuré d’inclure l’ensemble des hiéroglyphes dans ISO 10646.

Le cas des hiéroglyphes égyptiens
Abstract
We explain the problems met while encoding ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. After a brief presentation of the hieroglyphic system, we give an historical account of the various encodings which have been proposed for this writing system. Next, we concentrate on the theoretical problems linked to the encoding process itself We conclude that it’s too early to include all hieroglyphic signs in ISO 10646.
