sub-space constituting the field of power; growing links of this
sub-space with media industry, economy and politics being expressed
and consolidated through the seamless movement of certain social
agents. These representatives of the financial bourgeoisie have in
fact a purely instrumental relation with liberalism, their
pragmatism being well accommodated with a social discourse of
public regulation. In this perspective, the denunciation of think
tanks as a preferred vehicle for liberal ideology ignores the role
of think tanks in the construction, reproduction and dissemination
of a hegemonic discourse—that of capitalism—which uses both market

intentionalist representation of power. Acting by mere contagion,
without institutional mediation, the « ?single

an economic system with its philosophical justification, opponents

poles of the same encompassing speech. In this sense, if the utopia
of market society is alien to real capitalism, it still fulfills a

Since the beginning of the reform and openness policy, China has
experienced tremendous economic transformation which cannot be seen
anywhere in the history of modern societies. Understanding the
speed, the scope and the stability of the Chinese economic miracle
is still a challenge for social scientists, and more particularly
for those who analyze the relationship between capital and
ideology. Recently, Thomas Piketty dedicated one chapter to income
inequalities in China. His estimations indicate that income
inequalities have plateaued since the mid-2000s at a level below
the United-States. Piketty concludes that China is not tolerant of
income inequality. This article analyzes the data and methods used
by Piketty. Then, it proposes an alternative evaluation of
household income inequality using the Gini index. Based on the
China Family Panel Survey, it shows that income inequality has
increased until the end of the 2000s, and have been plateaued since
then at a level which exceeds the one of the United States. Those
estimations corroborate the conclusion of numerous specialists of
income inequality in China who demonstrated that Chinese people
mostly perceive income inequality as a prerequisite to economic
development.

Abstract In restoring the concept of ideology, Paul Ricœur
endeavors to resolve its inherent paradox, demonstrated by
K. Mannheim. Indeed, everything happens as if all criticism of
ideology was suspected in itself of belonging to an ideology. To
escape from this vicious circle, P. Ricœur follows neither the
line engaged by marxist « science », neither the line
inspired by sociology of knowledge for which he shows the aporetic
nature in both respects. The original contribution of the hermeneut
consists in solving the paradox of ideology, in drawing in the
resources of a political philosophy. Confronted with the
inoperative science/ideology opposition, Ricœur prefers to
implement subtle dialectics between utopia and ideology. In other
words, a criticism of ideology is only conceivable on the basis of
a utopian reflection which keeps the social order out of reach in
proposing a « liberating horizon ».

since its official institution by Durkheim. However, sociologists
have not yet reached a consensus on the right way to study them.
For some, they are a matter of disposition acquired during
socialization. For other, they are based on good reasons that the
analyst has to make explicit. The aim of this article is to show
that these oppositions are mainly grounded on the fact that this
notion refers to different phenomena. Once these different kinds of
beliefs have been identified, it appears that only a
multidisciplinary approach can give a full account of collective
beliefs.
