specificities of cyberviolence (a term under which we list all kind
of violence perpetrated in cyberspace) when it is carried out
within the framework of gender relations, this paper proposes not
only to apprehend this violence as a particular form of online
violence, but also to include it in the continuum of gender-related
violences and discriminations. Therefore, the notion of
vulnerability, defined here as a tension between gender agency and
risk, would be central in the perception of gender-related tensions
in cyberspace–understood in this perspective as a media, as a
public space and as a communication device. Thus, understanding
gender-based cyberviolence as constituting and perpetrating a
system of domination in a normed and gendered public sphere could
be used to consider this public problem in all its complexity, and
to manage it more effectively, and in a way more consistent with
the victims' feelings.

created a new communication tool, particularly for young people.
Worldwide, the use of e-mail, websites, instant messaging, web
cams, chat rooms, social networking sites and text messaging is
increasing and has generated new patterns of social relationships
among individuals. Although these new media have opened up new
perspectives in terms of access to information and learning some
less positive aspects have emerged such as cyberviolence and
cyberbullying (Mitchell, Finkelhor, & Wolak, 2003). This paper
is an international review of research on cyberviolence and
cyberbullying. First we adopt a critical approach to the
construction of cyberviolence as a new research object and the use
of definition and concepts. We then present findings about the
prevalence of the studied phenomena as well as about the
characteristics of victims of aggressors. This review also explores
the consequences of cyber violence and the effectiveness of
intervention.

on the young people’s involvement in cyberviolence and
cyberbullying. Over the last decades, a significant dearth of
research has been completed and their definition and

studies that provide inconsistent findings due to differences in
methods and what is genuinely observed. Nevertheless, there is
evidence that cyberviolence and cyberbullying are part of the young
people’s online experiences and that they negatively impact on
their physical, psychological wellbeing and school life. Research
on associated risks reach a consensus on various aspects: the
impact of time spent online; to be actively involved in online
social networking; the existence of gender differences as well as
the importance of cultural backgrounds and contexts. The latter
were highlighted through cross-national studies. The differences in

Internet, as well as easy and continuous access to sensitive data

crime is inherent in societies, it is not less a problem regarding
its evolution : linked to the economic development of land,
sea and air spaces, crime is now also in cyberspace. This is the
reason why the fight against cybercrime was the subject of a dense
normative development. However, the standard of nature repressive,
even very highly developed, covers a certain relativity. While
there are a multitude of offences committed in cyberspace, the
determination of responsibilities includes the difficulties whether

Moreover, because this crime covers a global dimension, the
localization of the acts, arouses discussions on the application of
the territoriality of cybercrime. In light of the specific
difficulties to understand this type of crime strongly affecting
