Director of studies at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), winner of the 2002 Balzan Prize for sociology, Dominique Schnapper is an honorary member of the Conseil constitutionnel, President of the Musée d'art et d'histoire du judaïsme and of the Conseil des sages de laïcité of the French Ministry of Education.
