Michel Granger is Professor Emeritus of nineteenth-century American literature at the University of Lyon 2, and a specialist in writers of the "American Renaissance", notably Hawthorne, Melville and Thoreau. He edited the Cahier de l'Herne, Henry D. Thoreau (L'Herne, 1994), and published a monograph, Henry D. Thoreau.
