Sylvain Parent is a former member of the École française de Rome and a senior lecturer in medieval history at the École normale supérieure de Lyon. His research focuses on the history of Italy, the papacy, and judicial practices. His recent publications include *Bartole de Sassoferrato, Treatises: On the Guelphs and Ghibellines*.
